Alan Ray Hatfield, age 84 of Osceola, went to be with the Lord on Friday, February 21, 2020 at Elkhart General Hospital following a brief illness. Al was born November 18, 1935 in Potsdam, Ohio to the late Raymond and M. Lucille (Sando) Hatfield. On June 28, 1958, he married the former Ms. Shirley Davenport.
Shirley, his wife of 61 years survives, along with their children Robert Hatfield of South Bend, Mark Hatfield of Granger, Lowell (Ruth) Hatfield of Argos, and Brenda (Drew) Wohlford of Osceola. Al is also survived by his sister Darlene (John) Carroll of Englewood, Ohio, 10 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his grandson Aaron Hatfield and his sister Eleanor Hatfield.
A graveside ceremony will be held at Good Shepherd Mausoleum on the grounds of Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens at 1:00 pm Wednesday, February 26, 2020. On March 7, 2020 friends and family will gather at Bethany Missionary Church; 56295 County Road 1, Elkhart one hour prior to the 11:00 am celebration of Alan’s life. Pastor Mike Peters will officiate the service and Cruz Family Funeral Home of Osceola is assisting with the arrangements.
Alan was employed as a metallurgist at NIBCO before working in the manufactured housing industry in the Elkhart area for many years. In his younger days, Al served as the President of the Osceola Little League for over 12 years and enjoyed working on cars. He also used his skills from the manufactured housing industry to help build and remodel homes for his friends and family. He was also an avid fan of the Cincinnati Reds and the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Alan and his wife Shirley were also longtime members of Bethany Missionary Church. In his memory, the family has requested donations be made to Bethany’s Missions Fund. To leave an online condolence for the Hatfield family, please follow the links provided on the “tribute wall” tab above.
