Arthur Henry “Artio” Knight, age 86 of South Bend, passed away Saturday, June 1, 2019 at the Sanctuary at Holy Cross. Arthur was born February 8, 1933 in Goshen, Indiana. He later graduated from Goshen High School and attended college before enlisting in the US Navy, where he served during the Korean War from 1951-1955. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Art married Patricia Weishaupt. She preceded him in death, passing away in 1980.
He is survived by his daughters Deb Hunt and her husband Danny of Sophia, North Carolina, and Cheryl Miller and her husband David of Elkhart, Indiana. Surviving as well are his grandchildren; Sarah, Karen, Chad and Kelly, and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Jeddy Henry and Gertrude Minnie (Clarbour) Knight and his sister Lucy.
There will be no visitation for Mr. Knight, and services will be held privately. Cruz Family Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Osceola is assisting with details.
Art was employed most of his life as a bartender, and he owned Artio’s Irish Pub in South Bend for many years. Most recently, Art enjoyed working in the cafeteria at the University of Notre Dame where he could meet and interact with the students on a daily basis.
He was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and attended every opening day game until the 2018 season. Many times, he would take charge and organize rooftop outings at Wrigley Field for the games. He was an excellent cook, enjoyed playing golf and loved spending time with his family and friends.
