Barbara J. Brogdon, Age 78, of Elkhart, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday December 4th at her home. Barbara was born on February 11, 1943, in Elkhart to the late William B. and Erma (Vlaminck) Rouch (Mahler). Barbara was the wife of the late Walter Deano Brogdon, whom she married in 1989.
She is survived by a daughter; Tamra Grosse and her husband David of New Paris, a son; David Alan Lawrence and his girlfriend Stacy McCullough of Elkhart, her stepchildren Kim Brogdon and Walter D Brogdon, both of Plymouth Indiana, sisters; Sharon Scanlon (Jim) of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Donna Lightner (Fred) of Elkhart, and a brother, William Rouch Jr (Cheryl) of Three Rivers, Michigan, along with fifteen grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. Barbara was preceded in death by her stepchildren; Faith Bontrager, Misty Clemons, Richard B Brogdon and Dean Alan Brogdon.
Visitation will be held from 2-3 PM Sunday December 12, 2021, at New Paris Missionary Church, 67621 State Rd. 15, New Paris IN 46553. Reverend David Hackney will officiate the 3:00 PM memorial service on Sunday December 12 at New Paris Missionary Church. A livestream of Barb's memorial service will begin 10 minutes prior to the service.
Barbara retired at the age of 63 from GTE, (Verizon) with whom she was Union Stewardess. After retirement she invested heavily in the Teddy Bear Museum in Elkhart, teaching children the love of reading. She was a Junior Achievement Volunteer in Elkhart, Served with Parents Without Partners. She also enjoyed Zumba, Girl Scout leadership and enjoyed square dancing at the mall and ringing bells at Christmastime for the Salvation Army. Barb was baptized at Nappanee Missionary Church where she attended with her cousin Sue for several years.
In Barb’s Bible, her son found a note written in her handwriting that her wish following her memorial service, was to encourage everyone to buy 3 children’s books and give them personally to children in their neighborhood or children in need.
