Barbara Ann Seaton, age 89, passed away May 20, 2021 surrounded by her children at her home in Osceola. Barb was born December 25, 1931 at home on the Varner homestead in Mounds, Illinois to the late Morrill T. and Dorothy (Varner) Parmley. Her family moved to South Bend after World War II began and she lived in the area most of her life. After high school, Barbara married Gay A. Ellis and together they had two children. She later married Robert Dujardin and together they had a daughter. Both Gay and Robert preceded her in death. On March 22, 1984, Barb married her beloved late husband William R. Seaton in Osceola, Indiana. William also preceded her in death in April of 2002.
Barb is survived by her daughter Sheryl Ellis (James) LaMar of Valrico, Florida, Rebecca Dujardin (Al) Mathes of New Paris, Indiana, David Eugene (Maritza) Ellis of Cross Hill, South Carolina and her step-son Lamar Seaton of South Bend. Surviving as well is her brother James (Judi) Parmley of Granger, Indiana and her grandchildren Leah Ellis (Nathan) Mazza, Christopher Ellis, Jaime LaMar, Alexandria & Sierra Mathes and her great grandchildren Spencer and Lorenzo. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Merrill Eugene Parmley and her grandson Isaac Dujardin.
Barb was a graduate of the former South Bend Central High School and worked at Wilson Brothers, Bendix Aviation, Associated Investments and then became a homemaker as her children were growing up. Later, she became a nursing assistant and retired from Memorial Home Health Care.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 pm Thursday, May 27, 2021 at Cruz Family Funeral Home in Osceola. A private graveside service will be held at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens where Barb will be laid to rest by her husband Bill.
She was very active in the Avalon Grotto and while a member, she served as the president of the Ladies’ Auxiliary group. Barb was also a longtime member of the Schuyler Colfax Chapter of the Daughter’s of the American Revolution. She was very involved with genealogy, loved to play cards and was a regular at the Battell Center in Mishawaka. In her younger years, she enjoyed bowling, tending to her beautiful flower gardens, and loved to quilt. She also attended Osceola United Methodist Church for many years.
The family would like to thank the amazing staff of AseraCare Hospice; Lori Lutin, Allison Szabo, Dana Martin, and Ashley Smith, for their care and concern for Barb and her family during their time of need.
