Betty Jo Guess, 73, of South Bend entered heavenly rest on Sunday, December 17, 2023, after a short battle of cancer.
She was born on February 9, 1950, in Alhambra, CA to Roy Porter and Virginia (Turnbow) Hodges. After her family moved to Reno, NV where she grew up, she met David Guess at the local bowling alley and “the rest is history,” when they were married on January 7, 1972.
David survives along with their four children, Jeff (Amanda) Guess of Granger, David Guess of Carson City, NV, Jason Guess of Lovelock, NV, and Robyn (John) Haag of Logan, Utah, 19 grandchildren, 1 great-grandson, and a brother, Jim (Debbie) Porter of Ft. Worth, TX. She was preceded in death by her mother and a granddaughter, Emily Rebekah Haag.
Betty had a tenacious mindset for serving others and did so with a loving kindness and spirit filled heart. She spent over 15 years serving in administrative roles in churches of her communities, serving in any way she could. She thrived in keeping everyone and everything organized both professionally and at home. She served her Claremont, CA and Caldwell, ID communities as a 9-1-1 dispatcher and was a member and spearheaded changes with Return Strong, a prison reform organization that was close to her heart.
In following her wishes, cremation has been chosen, a Celebration of Life service will take place at 11:00 am Thursday, December 21, 2023 at Southgate Church, 3717 S.
