Billy M. Broadway, age 76 of Mishawaka, passed away on June 2, 2017 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. Billy was born September 20, 1940 in Rayville, Louisiana to the late Bennie and Mary (Oglesby) Broadway. At the age of 20, Billy was drafted into the US Army where he served honorably from 1963-1965. On July 25, 1970, he married Patricia Gales in Mendon, Michigan.
Patricia survives, along with their son Douglas (Karen) Broadway of South Bend, and 4 grandchildren; Ashley (Mario) Hernandez, Douglas Broadway, Ryan Hunt, and Joshua Broadway. Surviving as well are 3 great grandchildren, Haley, Arianna and Aaron, and his siblings Tony (Carol) Broadway of Elkhart and Bennie (Betsy) Broadway of Tennessee. Billy was preceded in death by his siblings Lenny, Daisy, Von and Ricky Broadway.
There will be one hour of visitation prior to the 3:00 pm Celebration of Life with Military Honors to follow on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at Cruz Family Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Osceola, Indiana.
Billy was employed for many years as a maintenance and electrical worker at Essex Wire and Scott Brass in Mishawaka before retiring in 2006. While employed, he was a member of the Teamsters Union Local 364.
In his younger years, Billy enjoyed drag racing his 1969 Cobra Mustang at the Osceola Dragstrip. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR and other types of automobile racing. Billy was also an avid sports fan, following the Chicago Bears and Cubs.
In his memory, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
