Bobby Leon Rehmel, age 84, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at his home in Mishawaka. Bobby was born November 27, 1938, in Clay County, Indiana, to the late Raymond F. and Anna (Bemis) Rehmel. He was employed with the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier for over 30 years and later with Foxfire Safety and Discovery Middle School as a custodian.
He is survived by his son, Robert (Heather) Rehmel of Plymouth, Indiana, his granddaughter Josie Rehmel and his great granddaughter Elaina. Surviving as well are his siblings Pat Rehmel, LaDonna Gay, Roy “Bud” Rehmel, and Betty McCartney along with numerous nieces and nephews he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Kathleen Rehmel, his brother, Edward Rehmel, his brothers-in-law Richard Gay and Keith McCartney, and his sister-in-law, Karen Rehmel.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at Cruz Family Funeral Home in Osceola. There will also be one hour of viewing prior to the 11am funeral service on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at Northside Baptist Church, 53198 Co Rd 9, Elkhart, IN 46514. Bobby will be laid to rest in New Oak Hill Cemetery, Plymouth following services. For those unable to attend, a livestream will be broadcast in real time in the window below.
Bobby embraced a life filled with purpose and joy. He had an unyielding devotion to his faith, finding solace and guidance in the words of the Bible. His deep spiritual connection influenced every aspect of his life, guiding him to be a man of integrity and kindness.
One of his greatest joys was maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle. Beyond his dedication to fitness, Bobby found solace and tranquility in the great outdoors. Fishing and hunting were not merely hobbies for him, but rather a way to connect with nature and appreciate the beauty of God's creation. A green thumb and a lover of nature, Bobby found respite in his vegetable garden.
Most of all, Bobby will be remembered for his gentle spirit and unwavering faith. He had an inherent kindness that touched the lives of those around him. His soft-spoken words of encouragement and compassionate nature left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
