Carlyn West-Davis

April 6, 1954 — January 28, 2025

Elkhart

Carlyn West-Davis, 70, of Elkhart, entered glory on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 with her daughter by her side. She was born on April 6, 1954, to the late Rev. Booker T. West and Geneva L. (Works) West in South Bend, and later married Bernard E. Davis, who also preceded her in death in November 2023.

Surviving is her daughter, Sierra West, of Elkhart, siblings Renee (William) Bolden, of South Bend, Ossie (Columbus) Dillard, of Las Vegas, James West, of Indianapolis, and Jeffery West of Forrest Park, GA. A sister-in-law Tinna West, and granddaughter, Sy’Riyah Taylor also survive. Along with Carlyn’s husband and parents, Carlyn was preceded in death by two brothers, Damone Sr. and Booker, Jr. West.

Carlyn graduated from LaSalle high school in 1972. Her greatest passions in life were her faith and family, both of which she nurtured with love and dedication. She expressed her devotion through playing the piano and singing at her church, Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church in South Bend, where her music uplifted and inspired those around her. With a lighthearted spirit, she was a natural jokester among her family and friends, always ready with a witty remark or playful tease, making her the heart and soul of any gathering. Known for her famous sweet potato pie, she took great joy in sharing her homemade treats with loved ones. Carlyn also had an adventurous side, cherishing every opportunity to travel with her family, explore new places, and create lasting memories along the way.

In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place with a private family gathering scheduled later in the spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made toward the family to assist with future expenses and support Sy’Riyah’s continued education.
