Carolina (Chen) Hogendobler

Carolina Hogendobler, age 60 of Elkhart, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 18, 2024.  Carolina was born September 19, 1963, in Colon, Panama.  She met Tom Hogendobler while he was stationed in Panama.  They fell in love and were married on October 10, 1988.

Tom survives, along with their sons Julian Michael Hogendobler and Christopher Thomas Hogendobler, both of Elkhart.  Surviving as well is her mother, Hermina Cruz Mitre and her siblings Hector Muentes Cruz, Roberto Muentes Cruz, Marta E. Abadia Cruz, Priscilla E. Abadia Cruz, and Judith G. Abdia Cruz, all of Panama, along with 21 nieces and nephews.  Her father, Rogelio Chen preceded her in death.

Visitation will take place from 12-2 PM on Friday, May 24, 2024, at Elkhart Community Baptist Church, located at 23805 Sunnyside Ave, Elkhart, IN 46516. The funeral service, officiated by Pastor Ed Ritchie, will follow at 2 PM. Carolina was employed as a cashier for 18 years with Lowe’s in Goshen where her outgoing personality and warm, friendly smile made every customer feel welcome. Carolina was also an exceptional cook who enjoyed preparing traditional Panamanian meals for her family and friends. Her specialties included Arroz con Pollo, plantain dishes, and Tortas, which were always made with love and care.

In her spare time, Carolina enjoyed traveling back home to Panama to visit her family and friends. Her strong faith in the Lord was a cornerstone of her life, and she was a faithful member of Community Baptist Church in Dunlap, Indiana.
