Connie Marie (Smith) Day, age 83 of Mishawaka, peacefully went to be with the Lord on the morning of February 29, 2024. Connie was born September 29, 1940, in Elizabethtown, Kentucky.
She is survived by her children Charles C. “Chuck” Smith Jr. and his wife Teri, and Tabitha M. “Tabi” Smith-Wiley, both of Mishawaka. Surviving as well are her siblings Charles Stafford and his wife Bertie of Terre Haute, Indiana, Kenneth Stafford and his wife Penny of Walkerton, Indiana, 10 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Connie was eagerly anticipating the arrival of her first great-great grandchild who is due in August of 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents Julius Day and Ruby (Campbell) Stafford, her first husband Charles C. Smith Sr. and her fiancé Gordon Anderson, along with her sons Timothy W. Smith and Todd E. Smith, and her siblings Jackie Day, Damon Stafford, and Donald Stafford.
A graveside service will be held at 2pm, Friday, March 8, 2024, in the chapel mausoleum on the grounds of St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Cruz Family Funeral Home of Osceola has been entrusted with her care.
Connie was a dedicated dental assistant for several years and later took a position as the assistant service coordinator for St. Joseph Regional Adult Day Services, touching the lives of many with her compassion and empathy. Following 11 years of service, Connie retired to spend time with her family, friends and her fiancé, Gordon.
Connie was not just a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother; she was a shining example of love, faith, and kindness to all who knew her. Whether she was out on the golf course, engrossed in a puzzle or trivia challenge, or lounging poolside at McKinley Terrace, her zest for life was infectious. Her attention to detail, compassionate heart and fun-loving spirit were unmatched.
Connie was a prayer warrior. Her love for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ was evident in every aspect of her life. As a devoted member of Granger Community Church, she exemplified the teachings of love, compassion, and generosity. Throughout her life, she extended a helping hand to those in need and generously supported numerous organizations, embodying the spirit of giving and kindness.
