Cynthia Ann “Cyndi” Gatlin-Baxter, age 52 of Mishawaka, passed away surrounded by her loving family on August 15, 2022. Cyndi was born September 26, 1969, in South Bend, Indiana and attended Washington High School. Later, she enrolled in Ivy Tech college to obtain her certificate as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant which led to a long and rewarding career teaching adults with special needs at Holy Cross and the Logan Center in the Michiana area. Cyndi later moved to Florida where she taught several years at the Louise Graham Regeneration Center in St. Petersburg.
She is survived by her father, Larry (Carol) Gatlin Sr. of Osceola, her mother Joann Gatlin of Granger, her children Nikolas Potts of Mishawaka and Lindsey (Nathan) Wilson of Kewanna, Indiana and her grandchildren Christopher, Carson and Payge Potts. Surviving as well are her siblings Tammy (Jim) Sego of Bradenton, Florida, Larry (Kandy) Gatlin Jr. of South Bend, and Mellissa (Kevin) Fyffe of Granger along with her great nieces and nephews Cassandra, Christopher, Jacob, Matthew, Kaitlyn, Holden, Jaden, Austin and Emma and 7 great-nieces and nephews with one more arriving soon. Cyndi is also survived by her longtime friend, Sammy the Teacup Maltese Terrier.
Visitation will be held from 4-6 pm Thursday, August 18, 2022, at Cruz Family Funeral Home in Osceola with funeral services to follow at 6pm. For those unable to attend, a livestream of her service will begin 10 minutes prior to her service in the box below this obituary.
In her spare time, she enjoyed spending time with her family, taking cruises to warm weather destinations, and visiting casinos throughout the US.
“Miss Cyndi” as she was known to her clients, loved teaching both young students and adults. Her kindness, compassion and care for the numerous lives she touched as a special needs teacher, mentor and friend to many will be remembered fondly.
Cyndi will be remembered as being strong and independent woman who loved fiercely and overcame any obstacles standing in her way. Her love, support and encouragement of her children, family and friends set an example of love and courageousness that will be passed down throughout the generations.
