David Jon Banks, age 58 of Mishawaka, fought the good fight and entered into the Lord’s loving arms in the early morning hours of December 26, 2020. David was able to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ with all those he loved the most.
David was born January 26, 1962 in Marion, Indiana to the late John David Banks and Joyce (Banks) Colyer.
He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years Patti (Shaw) Banks. They were Jr. High sweethearts. David is also survived by his daughters Katie (Ryan) Van De Putte of Fishers, Indiana and Kelcie Banks of Mishawaka along with his grandchildren who were the light of his life, Anthony, Owen, Ethan and Evie Van De Putte. He is survived as well by his beloved dog Toula who never left his side and his ‘granddogs’ Hadley and Cubbie. David is also survived by his mom Joyce (Banks) Colyer, his sister JoAnn (Rex) Maynard, his brother Dennis (Becky) Banks, his step siblings Mike (Diann) Colyer and Melody (Chris) Leckron and his sisters-in law Julie (David) Devore of Swayzee, Indiana and Suzanne (Jim) Davis of Columbus, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his father John Banks and his step-father Larry Colyer, his grandbabies he never got to meet, and his in-laws Orlie and Enid Shaw. He also loved his nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews dearly.
Visitation will be held from 10 am until 1 pm at New Life Church in Osceola on Monday, January 4, 2021. Dr. Mike Cramer will officiate the 1:00 pm funeral on Monday, January 4, 2021 and interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka.
David was a graduate of the class of 1980 of Mississinewa High School and later attended Ball State University. He was employed for over 30 years in sales before his retirement 10 years ago. In his spare time, David loved watching IU basketball and Notre Dame football, enjoying a good cigar, watching movies, and swimming in his pool.
David and Patti attended New Life Church in Osceola where David was free to worship his Savior, Jesus Christ. His faith in the Lord was evident in his day to day interactions with others.
Most of all, David was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather who put his family first in everything he did. He will be remembered for his booming laugh, playing the world’s greatest Santa Claus, and giving the best bear hugs ever.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ronald McDonald House charities, the Humane Society or New Life Church. To light a virtual candle, view David’s online video tribute, or leave a message of condolence for the Banks family, please follow the links provided on the “Tribute Wall” above.
