Elkhart

David Allen Hobbs, age 88, passed away at his home in Elkhart on Friday, February 24, 2023, with his wife of 60 years by his side.  David was born January 30, 1935, in Elwood, Indiana to the late Paul Edwin Hobbs and Lucille Rose (Collier) Arehart.  On July 30, 1962, he married the former Ms. Susan K. Updegraff. The Hobbs honored their vows “Until death do we part,” as Susan joined David in Heaven less than 24 hours later.

Surviving are his children David Allen (Sally) Hobbs Jr. of Lewisburg, Tennessee, Susan (Mike) Sponseller, and Todd (Kimberly) Hobbs, both of Elkhart.  Surviving as well is his brother Laymond Hobbs as well as 52 grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his daughter Myrna Loy Porter and his siblings Harold Hobbs, Dwight Hobbs, and Wavelyn Rose Smith.

There will be no formal services for Mr. Hobbs, but his family asks that you honor his memory in your own special way. Cruz Family Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Osceola has been entrusted with his care.

David retired after serving the community for 40 years as a plumber with Reith Plumbing and Heating. In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time outdoors and fishing, but the true calling in David’s life was his family and the love he had for his wife, Susan.  He loved spoiling her and treating her like a queen, always describing her to his friends as “my everything.”

In his memory, donations may be made to CAPS of Elkhart, 1000 W. Hively Avenue, Elkhart, Indiana 46517.  To light a virtual candle, share a story of David’s life, or leave a message of comfort for his family, please follow the links provided on the tribute wall tab above.
