Donald Leroy Wood, age 81, passed away at his home in Granger with his loving family by his side on March 31, 2022.  Don was born May 22, 1940, in Mishawaka, Indiana to the late Rex and Beulah (Bryant) Wood.  Don was a graduate of Mishawka High School, class of 1958.  Following graduation, he enlisted in the US Air Force where he honorably served from 1958-1962.  While in the service, Don married Sarah Jane Smith on December 31, 1960.  They celebrated 58 years of marriage before her passing on May 22, 2019.

Don is survived by his daughters Beth (Doug) Hayse of Shorewood, Illinois, Laura Lefevbre of Wakarusa, Indiana, and Mary Georg (fiancé David Washkoviak) of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, as well as his 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Ross (Judy) Wood and Jerry (Barb) Wood, both of Mishawaka, Norma Peachey of Florida, Karen Swank of Walkerton, Pat Ruff and Martha (Bob) Brenneman, both of Osceola, Jane (Don) Slane of Fort Wayne, Gloria Newcomer of Elkhart and sister-in-law, Wanda Wood of Osceola. Day Road, Mishawaka. Interment will follow in Olive Cemetery, Elkhart.

Don enjoyed a long career as an Engineer with NIPSCO, and following retirement, he worked as a self-employed consultant. A favorite past-time for Don was enjoying the outdoors and "playing in the dirt" to keep his lawn and flower gardens immaculate. Completing puzzles and helping family with various home improvement projects was also enjoyed.  Additionally, cooking and baking for large family gatherings, especially during the holidays, was always completed effortlessly. Many friends and family enjoyed hearing him play the piano at home and his church for many years. Lastly, Don was blessed with great neighbors that he enjoyed sharing meals and friendship with.  His guidance, leadership, loving demeanor and beautiful, warm smile will be dearly missed.
