Doris Elsie Silveus, age 84 of Edwardsburg, Michigan, went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 12, 2022, with her family by her side. Doris was born April 15, 1937, in Osceola, Indiana to the late Arthur L. and Sarah A. (Smith) Gay. Doris was a graduate of Mishawaka High School, class of 1955. While at Mishawaka High School, Bill and Doris began dating, and they were married at Cedar Road Missionary Church on June 30, 1956. They celebrated 60 years of marriage before Bill passed away in December of 2016.
Surviving are her children Jon (Kim) Silveus of Granger, Indiana, Dennis (Sara) Silveus of Edwardsburg, Michigan, Cal (Carol) Silveus of Union, Michigan, Cris (Bud) Walterhouse of Elkhart, Indiana and Mike (Jill) Silveus of Plymouth, Indiana. Also surviving are 20 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Her siblings, June Fry and Richard Gay preceded her in death.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 pm Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at Granger Missionary Church, 50841 Birch Rd, Granger, IN 46530. There will also be one hour of visitation prior to the 3:00 pm funeral service on Thursday, March 17, 2022, at Granger Missionary Church and Doris will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. * For those unable to attend, a livestream will begin 10 minutes prior to Doris' funeral on Thursday in the "Livestream this service" video box below.
Doris was employed as a secretary with Dodge Manufacturing in Mishawaka and worked with Adams-Remco and Cole Equipment. From 1979-1985, she worked at Bethel College.
In her spare time, she loved spending time outdoors in her yard and bird watching. Over the years, she attended Cedar Road Missionary Church, Granger Missionary Church and Chapel Hill Missionary Church where she stayed active and involved with many of the groups and activities offered.
Most of all, Doris loved sharing her gift of hospitality with her family and their friends. She will be remembered for her kindness and gentle nature, along with her sweet smile and love for meeting new people. She loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren immensely and they brought her joy throughout her lifetime.
