Dorothy was born in Pueblo, Colorado in 1923 and was the youngest of three girls born to Mary and Paul Tomko. Her sisters, Margaret Bankston and Agnes Pruden have since passed on but remain as a loving memory forever in shaping Dorothy’s earlier life of living in Denver, Colorado.
Dorothy married Conrad Brooks Jones in 1943, an evangelical minister, and traveled teaching God’s message in various states and venues. She gave birth to three children, Connie Louise Stassen (1950 – 1994), Mary Elizabeth Lang (1953), and John Conrad Jones (1955).
In 1965 she was abandoned by her husband Conrad, and courageously raised three children on her own working first as a cleaning lady for hotels and motels, as a factory assembler for Samsonite Luggage, and finally, and most promising, a customer service representative for Mountain Bell Telephone where she eventually, and happily retired.
She was a fun-loving individual, who worked hard and provided for her children until they went on their own. She lived a modest life in Aurora, Colorado and enjoyed dancing, music, singing, watching soap operas and making people laugh with her jokes and pleasant personality.
Dorothy arrived in Mishawaka, Indiana in 2012 to live with her daughter Mary and her only granddaughter, Zoe Elizabeth Lang (1994), after a tragic fall left her wheelchair bound in Colorado. She eventually took residence at Creekside Village and adapted well to the nursing home environment. She loved going to “Happy Hour”, singing oldies but goodies, getting her hair done at the salon and sharing her favorite candy, “Werther’s” with everyone.
It is with utmost appreciation, we mention the loving care, compassion and dedication given to her by all the staff at Creekside Village (ASC), Heart to Heart Hospice, and Cruz Family Funeral Home and Cremation Service, in making her end of life comfortable, pleasant and dignified.
She will be greatly missed and remembered as a dynamic daughter, sister, mother and grandmother.
