Dr. G. Thomas Rymers, D.O., a longtime resident of Osceola, passed away Thursday, October 31, 2019 at the Center for Hospice Care in Elkhart.  Dr. Rymers was born March 22, 1927 in Oak Harbor, Ohio to the late Clifford and Nellie (Bearss) Rymers.  On June 21, 1952, he married Dorothy Vogelsang in Toledo, Ohio.

Surviving is his wife of 67 years, Dorothy Rymers of Elkhart, and their children Rex (Marie) Rymers of Pendleton, Indiana, Stephen (Karen) Rymers of Incline Village, Nevada, and Tracy (David) Hart of Indianapolis, Indiana.  Also surviving are 6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.  He was preceded in death by his daughter Robin Rymers in 1965, and his brother Phillip Rymers.

Dr. Rymers was a graduate of Oak Harbor High School, class of 1945.  Following graduation, he enlisted in the US Navy, serving honorably until 1947.  Following his honorable discharge from the military, Thomas attended Bowling Green University before transferring to the University of Toledo to complete his bachelor’s degree in pharmacology.  After two years as a pharmacist, he enrolled at Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine and became a physician. Through the years as a physician, Dr. Rymers also kept his license as a pharmacist to continue learning and better serve his patients.  While in his residency at the Osteopathic Hospital in South Bend, he purchased an existing practice and built the Osceola Clinic where he dedicated his time and effort to the residents of the community.

During his years working as a physician, Dr. Rymers loved serving as the Penn High School team doctor for the football and basketball teams. He attended many games home and away and enjoyed being a part of the team.  He also served in the 1960’s on the PHM School Board during the planning of both Grissom and Schmucker Middle Schools.

After retirement in 1995, Dr. Rymers could be found on one of the many golf courses in the area, reading a newspaper, investment magazine or golf journal or traveling with his wife to Jamaica, Hawaii or Las Vegas.  Dr. Rymers enjoyed time with his family, especially at Thanksgiving and was looking forward to spending time with his family this year.
