Gary Allen Shanholt

Gary Allen Shanholt, age 63 of Elkhart, passed away at his home at 6:49 am Thursday, June 29, 2017.  Gary was born Sept. 11, 1953 in Mishawaka, IN to the late Jack and Ruth (Rader) Shanholt.  On June 29, 1973, he married Teresa Owensby in Elkhart.  She preceded him in death in 2011.

Surviving are his sons David Shanholt and Robert Shanholt, both of Elkhart and 4 grandchildren; Brittany Shanholt, Emily Shanholt, Brice Garrett, and Jordyn Shanholt. Gary is also survived by his siblings Jack (Edith) Shanholt, Daniel (Jan) Shanholt, and Karla Funnell, all of Elkhart.

Visitation will be held 2 hours prior to the 2:00 pm funeral service on Monday, July 3, 2017 at Cruz Family Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Osceola.  Interment will follow in Olive Cemetery, Elkhart.

Gary retired after working over 40 years at Selmer in Elkhart.  He was a former firefighter with the Baugo Township Fire Department for 14 years, and a longtime member of the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 19 of Elkhart, where he served on the Color Guard for many years.  In his younger years, Gary coached his sons in Little League and enjoyed working on cars.
