Gene L. Thompson, 79, of Mishawaka, passed away on Monday, January 17th at Greenleaf Health Campus of Elkhart.
Gene was born in Elkhart on September 11, 1942 to Earl and Katheryn (Baker) Thompson, and was a life-long area resident. He was employed at Dexter Axel for 23 years. On August 16, 1999, he married Barbara M. Holdren in Mishawaka. Gene was a member of the American Legion, he enjoyed watching NASCAR and attending races at the OC Drag Strip. He loved Classic Cars, most specifically Chevy’s. Gene’s greatest joy came from being with his family.
Gene is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Holdren, three stepdaughters, Debbie Borden of Mishawaka, Laurie (Mark) May of Mishawaka, and Kim Holdren of Elkhart. He was the proud grandfather of four; Joshua (Nicki) Borden, Lacey (Matt) Weber, Shelby Atkinson, and Braxton Borden, and a proud great grandfather to five; Autumn Thrash, Jackson Borden, Emmitt Borden, Edwin Borden, and Remi Weber. He is preceded in death by his parents, and his daughter, Brooke Thompson of Provos, Utah.
A celebration of Gene's life will be held 2:00-4:00 Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at Cruz Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Osceola.
