Helen Marjorie Althoff

Helen Marjorie Althoff, 95, of Mishawaka passed away Monday August 1, 2016 at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center. she was born November 25, 1920 in Pierceton, Indiana to Garland & Lucy (McDonald) Menzie. On December 10, 1943 she married Lester Althoff. He preceded her in death on November 2, 1979. She was also preceded in death by her father, Garland Menzie, mother Lucy Walgamuth and two brothers, Marlin & Gordon Menzie. Surviving are three sons, Rex (Jane) Althoff of Presto, PA, Eric (Laura) Althoff of South Bend, Mark (Debra) Althoff of Lenexa, Kansas; six grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren and a brother, Cloyce (Patsy) Menzie of Warsaw, IN. Helen graduated summa cum laude from Bethel College and received her master's degree in teaching from Ball State. She was a member of the Cedar Road Missionary Church played the keyboard and was the church organist for many years. She loved to play and sing music. Helen also was a member of the Indiana retired teachers association, member of AARP, a volunteer at St. Joe Hospital and the literacy council in South Bend. She taught line dancing at the Patel Center, enjoyed doing jigsaw and crossword puzzles and traveling. Helen was an elementary school teacher, teaching for the Penn-Harris-Madison School Corporation at Elsie Rogers Elementary School in Mishawaka. Visitation for family and friends will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Zimmerman-Inman Funeral Home in Osceola. There will also be visitation for one hour prior to the 1:00 p.m. Friday August 5, 2016 funeral service at the Cedar Road Missionary Church, 56907 Cedar Road in Osceola. Pastor Dale Hamrick will preside and burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be given to the Cedar Road Missionary Church.
