James Paul Foster, age 84 of Bradenton, Florida, formerly of Elkhart, passed away on April 22, 2024. Jim was born May 9, 1939, in Elkhart, Indiana to the late William F. and Dorthea G. (Smith) Foster. Jim's journey through life was intertwined with sports from an early age. He proudly represented Jimtown High School as a member of the first football team where he displayed his talent and dedication on the field. His athletic skills extended to the basketball court, where he played a pivotal role in the success of the Jimtown basketball team. Following graduation, Jim remained a proud “Jimtown Jimmy” for life. On October 19, 1981, Jim married Elizabeth L.” Betty” Miller in Elkhart, Indiana. She preceded him in death on May 6, 2020.
Surviving are his children LeAnn Foster and Doug Foster, both of Bradenton, Florida, Dale Rogers of Vincennes, Indiana, and Jimmy (Andi) Rogers of Elkhart. Surviving as well are his siblings Jerry (Jackie) Foster of Indianapolis, Indiana and Don Foster of Wakarusa, Indiana, 4 grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild and 7 step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers Bob, Dick, and Bill Foster.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the 12:30 pm celebration of life service on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Cruz Family Funeral Home in Osceola. Jim will be laid to rest in California Road Cemetery following services.
Jim was employed by Miles Laboratories for over 38 years. In his spare time, Jim’s love for sports led him to become a referee for several sports and outside of his officiating duties, Jim loved to play golf, spend time fishing and bowling.
One of Jim's greatest joys in life was the adventures he and Betty would share as they traveled the United States, creating memories as they explored new places together. Jim and Betty also enjoyed camping at Eby Pines Campground in Bristol where they made lifelong friends and their family would come to visit with them each summer.
Above all else, Jim will be remembered for his caring heart and his devotion to his family. As a husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he taught his family to love and support each other. His kindness and generosity touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
