Janice Ruth Borgman

Janice Ruth “Jan” Borgman, age 80, of Elkhart, passed away at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center on March 27, 2025. Jan was born February 20, 1945, in Mishawaka, Indiana, and was adopted by Wilford and Hazel (Holloway) Walters. She was a graduate of Mishawaka High School, class of 1963. On December 2, 1978, Jan married John Borgman in North Manchester, Indiana. They celebrated over 45 years of marriage before John’s passing in June of 2025.

Surviving is her son, Jason (Andrea) Huxford of Osceola, and her stepchildren Ginger (Cleveland “Charlie”) Cleary of Punta Gorda, Florida, and Kim (Joni) Borgman of Pittsboro, Indiana. Also surviving are her grandchildren, whom she adored: Bryce (Fiancée Anna Jamicich) Huxford, Jillian Huxford, Justin (Kristin) Garner, Kelly (Nik) Cybulskis, Tyler (Jordyn) Borgman, and Whitni (Jonny) Albers, along with seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Bud Walters, and her granddaughter Danielle (Cameron) Hostetler.

Jan took a position in advertising and sales with WSJV and WSBT television stations before becoming a bank teller, working closely with her customers in the community at Bank One, Middlebury Bank, and later First Source Bank.

Jan loved sports and was the biggest and loudest cheerleader for her son when he played sports, her grandchildren in all their activities, and, of course, Notre Dame football and women’s basketball. She loved being a grandma and made it her mission to spoil her grandchildren from an early age. Family events were her favorite pastime, whether gathering around her table for a family meal or hosting summer pool parties filled with laughter and fun.

In her younger years, Jan and John bowled in leagues together and volunteered in the community with Meals on Wheels. Jan was also a woman of deep faith; she sang in the church choirs at First Baptist Church and Grace Church and was a longtime member of New Life Church of Osceola, where she was active with her Sunday School group. She found peace and comfort reading her Bible daily in her favorite chair and reading daily devotionals.

Visitation will be held from 3-5 pm Friday, April 4, 2025 at New Life Church, 11593 McKinley Hwy, Osceola, IN 46561 with funeral services to follow at 5pm. Cruz Family Funeral Home of Osceola has been entrusted with Jan’s care.
