Jeffery Quentin Welker

April 9, 1956 — September 23, 2022

Osceola

Jeffery Quentin Welker, age 66 of Osceola, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 23, 2022.  Jeff was born April 9, 1956, in South Bend, Indiana to the late Freddie and Oma (Joseph) Welker.  Following his graduation from Penn High School, Jeff enlisted in the US Marine Corps where he served honorably until his discharge in 1977.  Shortly thereafter, Jeff met Donna Faye Carmichael and her young son Rodger. Jeff and Donna wed in 1978 and they became an instant family.  Jeff’s wife, Donna, preceded him in death on September 27, 2017.

Surviving is his son Rodger D. Carmichael and his wife Kelly of Granger and his grandchildren Claire, Carley and Anden Carmichael.  Surviving as well are his siblings Ron Welker and his wife Nancy, Brenda Reinholtz, Howard Welker and his wife Debra, Byron “Dave” Welker, and Lisa Tompkins and her husband Chris.  His siblings, Freda Dustin and Freddie Welker preceded him in death.

Following his wishes, there will be no formal services for Jeff. His family asks that you remember him in your own special way. Cruz Family Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Osceola has been entrusted with his care.

Jeff retired after working for more than 25 years as a diesel mechanic with Daimler Trucks of North America, Freightliner division, in Wakarusa.  His incredible work ethic was a shining example to others of his dedication to his craft, and his drive to work hard and provide for his family was passed down to his son, Rodger.

In his spare time, Jeff enjoyed having breakfast with his siblings and spending time with his family.  His generous and selfless demeanor allowed him to give of his time and knowledge to help anyone who needed it.  No matter who asked, Jeff always willingly took the time to help when he could.

Most of all, Jeff was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather to his family.  He loved them immensely and made sure they knew his time and attention was his priority in their lives. Any given night during the season, Jeff could be found at the Harris Softball Field in Granger where he would watch his grandchildren play.  His love for them and their sport was an important part of his life, and they will remember the encouragement and support he gave as they continue on through the years.
