Jerry A. Handley, 78, of South Bend, passed away with his family at his side on Thursday, May 9, 2024, after a courageous fight with extended illnesses. Surviving is Jerry’s daughter, Kathy (George) Schramm of Edwardsburg, MI, daughter-in law Norine Handley of South Bend, IN, sisters-in-law Carolyn (Don) Simpson, and Lottie (Dave) Holt, both of South Bend and Glenda Handley-McClure of Hardy, AR, a brother-in-law, Les Prout of Constantine, MI, grandchildren, Jaclyn Schramm of Edwardsburg, Ian Schramm of Mishawaka, Kristopher (Ashley) Handley of Mishawaka, and Kirsten Handley of South Bend, and 1 great-granddaughter, Luna Handley. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, wife, his son Daniel, and siblings, Martha Griggs, Mrytle Stacy, and James Handley.
Jerry was a man of many passions and pursuits and shared his faith in the Lord as a teacher for many years. He was a member of Willowdale Church of Christ, in Elkhart. Beyond his faith, Jerry found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid pocketknife collector, a beloved fisherman, and a musician who played his guitar and sang with family and friends. He found great delight in watching Notre Dame Football, cheering on his team with fervor and loyalty; and as a woodworker, Jerry's hands were skilled in bringing forth beauty from raw materials. He found inspiration and practical knowledge from watching the New Yankee Workshop, honing his craft with each project. Most importantly, Jerry’s family was of utmost importance; he delighted in creating memorable experiences by lighting off fireworks at family gatherings and cruising around in his 1984 Corvette. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories.
The viewing for family and friends is scheduled for Wednesday, May 15, 2024, from 10-12 noon at Cruz Family Funeral Home, Osceola. A service to honor Jerry’s life will begin at noon with burial to follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park.
