JoAnn Marie Stewart, age 84 of South Bend, passed away with her family by her side on Friday, January 15, 2021 at the Center for Hospice, Racklin House in Mishawaka. JoAnn was born February 13, 1936 in Mishawaka to the late John and Anna (Mickels) Spite. She was a graduate of Mishawaka High School and was employed throughout the years as a secretary at various schools and offices in the Michiana area.
She is survived by her children Sandra Callaway and Cindy Reihl, both of South Bend, Jeff Stewart of Plymouth, Indiana and Patrick J. (Savitri Viozat) Stewart of Louisville, Kentucky. Surviving as well are her grandchildren Karen T. Callaway, Carly E. Callaway, Adam D. Reihl and Ashley N. McDonald, along with her great grandchildren Lucas, Abigail, Gabriel, Sophia, Zoe and Wyatt. Her siblings, Andy Spite of Mishawaka, George Spite of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Betty Ann Runyon of Charlotte, North Carolina survive as well. She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings John and Michael Spite and Nancy Wright.
There will be no services for JoAnn. Cruz Family Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Osceola has been entrusted with her care.
JoAnn was primarily a homemaker and loved spending time meeting the needs of her children. She loved bargains and going to garage sales, reading and traveling.
Though she had a tremendous sense of humor and loved to kid and joke with others, her wisdom and sage advice will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
