John P. Bennett, of Nappanee, was taken home to his Lord and Savior on Saturday, October, 21, 2023. He was born March 14, 1965, to the late George and Wildas Bennett, in Toledo Ohio. On September 1, 2012, he married his beloved bride, Cheryl Bontrager.
She survives, along with step-children Brittani (Josh) Harber of Noblesville, John (Alicia) Ward of Mishawaka, David and Evan Maldonado of Evansville, and one step-granddaughter, Gabriella Harber. Surviving also are his siblings, Reed (Kay) Bennett, Lori (Otto) Griefelt, both of Ohio, Marsha (Jerry) Dearbeck of South Carolina, Barb (Mark) Eisenbrandt of Florida, and Scott, Sharon and Steve. He was preceded in death by a half-sister, Kathleen Bennett.
He was a Stephen’s Ministry leader through River Oaks Church, served in the US Air Force and recently attended New Song Church in Plymouth. John was an avid sports fanatic and loved to cheer on his University of Michigan Wolverines. He enjoyed cooking and grilling with the family and playing golf in nice weather.
A time to honor John’s life will be held at River Oaks Community Church, Goshen, from 9 – 11 am, Saturday, October 28, 2023, with an 11am service. Pastor Scott Mathews Officiating. A private burial will take place at Eden Cemetery, Topeka at a later date.
