John Andrew Magyar

February 15, 1941 — July 4, 2017

John Andrew Magyar, age 76 of Elkhart, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, July 4, 2017.  John was born February 15, 1941 in Hastings, Michigan to the late Nick G. and Faye M. (Boatman) Magyar.  At the age of 17, John enlisted in the US Navy and served honorably until his discharge in February of 1962.  On December 12, 1964, John married Judie Bowman in Elkhart, Indiana.

Judie survives, along with their children Janet (Marvin) Miller of Bristol, and Curtis (Chelsea) Magyar of Nappanee.  Also surviving are his 7 grandchildren; Lucas (Johna) Miller, Toni Miller, Samual Miller, Matthew Magyar, Zane Miller, Molly Magyar and Kari Hershberger.  Surviving as well are 3 great grandchildren; Kylie, Allyson and Bryce. John is also survived by his siblings Mary Ellen (Charles) Grove of Osceola, James (Dolly) Magyar of Bristol, Joe (Sharon) Magyar of North Carolina, Alex (Carol) Magyar, Fred (Joan) Magyar, Steven (Tracy) Magyar and Michael (Sandy) Magyar, all of Elkhart. .   Preceding him in death were his siblings Janet May Magyar, Lois Toth, Jack Magyar, Joan Anderson William Magyar, and Garland “Pete” Magyar.

Visitation will be held from 3-7 pm Friday, July 7, 2017 with funeral services and Military Honors to follow at 7:00 PM at Cruz Family Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Osceola.

John was employed for many years as an Engineering Operator for Local Union #150.  In his spare time, he enjoyed playing golf and traveling with his family, especially to Mackinac Island in Michigan and Estes Park, Colorado.  John was also fond of and loved to collect buffalos, and was a member of the Osceola United Methodist Church.   John also loved to gamble and just a couple weeks prior to his passing he was able to visit the casino in Michigan City with his whole family one last time.
