Joyce Alma McCaskill, age 87 of Osceola, went to be with her Lord and Savior on the afternoon of December 3, 2021, with her family by her side. Joyce was born on August 15, 1934, in Brownsville, Kentucky to the late Hobart and Alice (Clark) Meredith. She met James McCaskill Jr. while he was serving his country in the US Army and they married on April 4, 1958, in Louisville, Kentucky. They impressed other dancers for while dancing the “Jitterbug” and won several dance contests throughout the years.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, James McCaskill Jr., along with their three sons, Jim (Sheila) McCaskill of Osceola, John McCaskill of Mishawaka, and Jeremy (Jodie) McCaskill of Granger. Surviving as well are seven grandchildren: Jaime (Chuck) Goodin, Meredith McCaskill, James McCaskill IV, Payne McCaskill, Aaron McCaskill, Ty McCaskill and Reese McCaskill, and 2 great grandchildren, Novella and Charlie Goodin. Joyce was preceded in death by her brothers Wayne, Ben, Gerald, Chuck and John Meredith, her sister Helen Culver, and her adopted sisters Flossie Meredith and Charlotte Dauber.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at Cruz Family Funeral Home in Osceola. Pastor Jack Rorie will officiate the 1:00pm funeral service on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, at Cruz Family Funeral Home, with interment to follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Joyce was employed with Enterprise Rental Car as a driver and County Market as a bookkeeper, but she primarily devoted her life as a mother and homemaker for her husband and sons. In her spare time, she was an avid reader and an expert seamstress who enjoyed sewing custom blankets, among other things, for her family and friends.
Joyce was also a longtime member of the Osceola General Baptist Church where she served as their treasurer for several years.
