Keith Aldon McCartney, age 76 of Osceola, went to be with his Lord and savior, Jesus Christ on Friday, November 13, 2020 at the Courtyard Healthcare Center in Goshen. Keith was born June 18, 1944 in South Bend, Indiana to the late Minet and Frances (Crab) McCartney. Keith later moved to Arizona and graduated from Mesa High School, class of 1962. At the beginning of the Vietnam War, Keith was drafted into the US Army where he served honorably, achieving the rank of E-4 before being honorably discharged in 1967.  Later that year, he married Betty Rehmel on October 7 1967 in Mishawaka, Indiana. They recently celebrated their 53rd anniversary.

Keith is survived as well by his great granddaughter Lena Banks and his siblings Larry (Sue) McCartney and Sharon Grady, both of Mishawaka and his sisters in law Pauline and Arlene McCartney of Dowagiac, Michigan.  He was preceded in death by his siblings Kenneth, Norman, Rosco, & Jim McCartney, Frances Runnels and Evelyn Smith.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 pm Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at Cruz Family Funeral Home in Osceola.  Funeral services will take place at 11:00 am on Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at Cruz Family Funeral Home and interment and military honors will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.   For those unable to attend in person, please use the following link beginning one half hour prior to the 11am service to stream Keith’s funeral in real time: us02web.zoom.us/j/5746748689

Keith was employed for many years as a compound mechanic with Heraeus Kulzer (formerly Bayer Industries) in South Bend until his retirement in 2008.  In his spare time, Keith enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting, fishing and camping.  He was extremely fond of horses and spent most of his life training and riding them. In his younger years, Keith also was very athletic and enjoyed playing softball, bowling and pitching horseshoes, and he also liked to keep his mind challenged by playing chess.

He was  a longtime member of the Ireland Road Church of God, a member of the Michiana Walley Club, the paint horse association, the Coon club and the Osceola Lions Club and worked several years for the town of Osceola on the police and fire department as an EMT.

Most of all, Keith’s faith in God and his family were the most important part of his life.  He never met a stranger and loved to tell stories.
