Kirk D. Kenaga Sr.

Kirk D. Kenaga Sr., age 67 of Mishawaka, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, October 14, 2023.  Kirk was born April 26, 1956, in Elkhart, Indiana to the late Robert and Gwendolyn (Crume) Kenaga and was a graduate of Penn High School.  In July of 1984, Kirk married Patricia Schmitt.  They celebrated 38 years of marriage before Patti’s passing in September of 2022.

Kirk is survived by his children, Tammi Kenaga of Mishawaka, Kirk D. (Michelle) Kenaga Jr. of Indianapolis, and Rachel (Larry) Hooley of Elkhart and his granddaughter Jillian Kenaga. Surviving as well are his siblings Linda (Gerald) Steinbaugh of Florida, Dennis (Vicki) Kenaga of Mishawaka, Marla (Laron) Beyer of Kimmel, Indiana, and his significant other, Jan Husband of South Bend.

There will be 2 hours of visitation prior to the 6:00 pm celebration of Kirk’s life on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at Cruz Family Funeral Home in Osceola.

Kirk enjoyed all things automotive and was employed locally for many years as a salesman in the auto industry.  His career in sales was not just a job, but a calling. Kirk excelled in his profession because he understood that it was not just about selling cars, but about building relationships. He was known for his genuine care for his customers, always looking out for their best interests, and ensuring that they drove away not just with a new vehicle but with a sense of satisfaction and trust.  He later took an early retirement to care for his wife, Patti, in her illness.

Kirk found happiness in the simple pleasures of life. His family meant the world to him, and he made it a priority to spend quality time with them by the pool for conversation, and sometimes poolside preaching.  Kirk was rooted in his faith and his love and devotion to his family were evident in every moment they shared. In everything he did, Kirk exemplified the principle of “family first.” His love for his family was boundless, and he expressed this love through his actions, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those he held dear. He also found great joy in working on projects around the house, tending to his lawn and caring for the home he built.

Kirk's warm and welcoming nature knew no bounds. He was a people person, easily connecting with everyone he met. His ability to make others feel valued and understood allowed him to know no strangers. Kirk's excellence with people was not just a skill; it was a reflection of his genuine interest in others and his kindness.
