Larry Devon Platz, age 76 of Osceola, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka. Larry was born July 2, 1942 in North Liberty, Indiana. Larry attended SB Washington High School before enlisting in the US Navy. He served his country honorably and was discharged in 1966. On July 1, 1994, he married Cindy Wilson in Mishawaka.
Cindy survives, along with his children and step children, Michelle Platz of Tennessee, Kim Compton and Larry Platz II, both of Anderson, Indiana and Michael Prescott of Osceola. Also surviving are his grandchildren; David, Christopher, Allen, Hannah, and Ian, as well as 6 great-grandchildren. Larry is also survived by his siblings Evelyn Runyan, Dave Platz, Joyce Eaglebarger, Ruth Ryall, and John Platz. He was preceded in death by his parents Dave Platz and Faith (Cripe) Snodgrass, his siblings Mary Ann Wilson, Pat Mitchell and Bob Platz, and his step-daughter Angela Merica.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the 11:00 am Celebration of Larry’s life at the Cedar Road Missionary Church in Osceola on Monday, January 14, 2019. Per his wishes, cremation will take place and his cremated remains will be scattered in the Atlantic Ocean. Cruz Family Funeral Home and Cremation Service is assisting with his arrangements.
Larry was employed for over 30 years at Dodge Manufacturing as a floor molder. After retirement, he worked part time delivering prescriptions for Merrill’s Pharmacy, and at E.T.I. of South Bend. In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time outdoors fishing and camping with his family and friends. He was also a long-time member of Cedar Road Missionary Church in Osceola.
