Lila Grace Smith, age 92 of Troy, Ohio formerly of Osceola, went to be with the Lord on Friday, February 16, 2018 in the Hospice Unit of Upper Valley Medical Center. Lila was born December 27, 1925 in North Liberty, Indiana to the late J. Ward and Frances L. (Fuller) Reeg. After graduation from Mishawaka High School, she married John H. Smith on April 17, 1948 in Osceola. They recently celebrated 69 years of marriage.
John survives, along with their son Craig H. (Victoria Sayers) Smith of Piqua, Ohio and 4 granddaughters; Kim (Mark) Eller, Steffanie (Wayne) Davey, Nicole (Brian) Schmidt, and Tanya (Kenneth) Stewart. Surviving as well are 19 great grandchildren. Lila was preceded in death by her siblings Nadine L. Smith, Marian Dils, and Robert Reeg.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at Osceola Cemetery. Cruz Family Funeral Home and Cremation Service is assisting with arrangements. Following the graveside committal, there will also be a celebration of Lila’s life for family and friends at 4:00 pm Sunday, March 4, 2018 at Koester Pavilion, 3232 North County Road 25-A, Troy, Ohio, 45373, where Lila and John recently moved.
Lila was employed for 42 years as a machine operator and inspector at the CTS Corporation in Elkhart before retiring in 1989. She was also a longtime member of the Osceola United Methodist Church where she and the ladies auxiliary helped with the Church Bazars for many years. Lila also enjoyed meeting with the retired ladies of CTS once a month and staying involved in the Osceola community while her husband John was the President of the Town Council many years ago.
Most of all, Lila was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her family. Her family was her world and they will miss her dearly.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Town of Osceola for the upkeep of Osceola Cemetery, a project she and John believed in wholeheartedly.
