Lillie Darnell O’Dell-Rose, age 57 of Granger, passed away unexpectedly at Memorial Hospital on Thursday, November 30, 2023. Lillie, or “Darnell” as she loved to be called, was born March 9, 1966, in Mishawaka, Indiana to Kelly and Margaret (Richardson) Hall. Following graduation from Penn High School, Darnell took a position with Maxi-Blast in South Bend where she dedicated 36 years of service to the company. While working for Maxi-Blast, she met Jerry Rose. They fell in love and were married on January 6, 1999.
She is survived by her husband of 24 years, Jerry L. Rose of Granger and her son Ryan M. (fiancé John Hruskocy) of Merriville, Indiana. Her mother Margaret Hall and her sisters Connie Hall and Debbie Cranmer also survive, along with her nephew Shawn Cranmer. Her father Kelly Hall and brother-in-law, Tim Cranmer proceeded her in death.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at Cruz Family Funeral Home in Osceola. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at Cruz Family Funeral Home with interment to follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Darnell was a loving wife to Jerry and a devoted mother to her son, Ryan. Her easy-going and charismatic personality endeared her to all who had the privilege of meeting her. She possessed a remarkable ability to make conversation with strangers effortlessly, leaving a lasting impression on everyone she encountered. Her generosity extended beyond words, as she willingly shared her time and finances with those in need.
One of Darnell's great passions in life was shopping, and her love for animals, especially her dog and the numerous cats she took in and cared for, was a testimony to her compassionate nature. Her home was always open to cats seeking refuge, and her persuasive arguments for others to adopt these feline friends resulted in many finding loving homes among family and friends.
More than anything else, Darnell's heart belonged to her family. She was a wonderful wife and mom who never missed an event that her son, Ryan, participated in. Her support and presence at every marching band competition, concert, or halftime at Penn Football games showed the depth of her love and commitment.
