Margaret Jean Richards, 97, passed away on May 4, 2022, in her grandson's home in Millersburg, IN, where she was lovingly cared for by her family. She was born on March 18,1925 in Elkhart, IN to the late Walter and Estelle “Blanch" Snell. Margaret married the love of her life, Donald "Gabby" Richards on August 24,1946 in Elkhart, IN. She was preceded in death after an extended illness by "Gabby" on September 15, 1978. They were happily married for 32 years.
Margaret is survived by her daughter Peggy (Ronald) Knepp of Goshen, IN; her son Patrick (Terri) Richards of Loudon, TN; her sister Doris Johnston of Sacramento, CA; her grandchildren Steven (Pam) Vail, Douglas Vail, Tanya (Scott) Miller, Richard Vail, Anthony (Shellie) Richards, Jennifer (Brian) Seltzer; lots and lots of great-grandchildren, great great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Margaret was unexpectedly preceded in death by her daughter Pamela J Richards on November 5, 1985. Also preceding her in death are her siblings Walter "Pete" Snell, Albert Snell, and Catherine "Sis" Burt.
After retiring, she enjoyed traveling, gardening, baking, reading, and most of all spending time with her family whom she adored. She was famous for her annual "Halloween" fudge in her Osceola neighborhood where she resided for over 61 years. Margaret was a member of the Osceola Methodist Church for many years where she enjoyed the worship and fellowship as well as donating her time in the nursery and doing the bookkeeping for the church.
At Margaret's request, cremation has taken place and family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life at 10:00 am Saturday, June 4, 2022, at the Cruz Family Funeral Home in Osceola. Pastor Leroy Wise of the Osceola United Methodist Church will officiate her service. A private graveside service will follow at the Osceola Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her late husband, Gabby.
