Marianne W. Pabst, age 89 of Angola, Indiana, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2015, surrounded by her family in Vero Beach, FL. following a brief illness. Marianne was born in South Bend, IN on November 9, 1925 to the late Glenn and Georgia White. She is survived by a brother, George R. White (Clara) of Vero Beach, FL. She spent her early years in South Bend and LaPorte, IN, but returned to Steuben County each summer to stay with her grandparents on the family farm near Salem Center, IN.
Marianne graduated from Riley High School in 1944 and graduated from Henrotin Hospital School of Nursing in 1946. After raising her children, Marianne returned to nursing and developed a deep love for geriatric care. She was employed for many years by Turtle Creek Nursing Home and eventually retired from Elkhart General Hospital.
She married John H. Pabst on January 24, 1948. Mr. Pabst passed away shortly after the couple celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary. The couple lived in Osceola, Indiana until 2002, when they moved to Angola. The couple had five children: Judith Anne Pabst (deceased), Deborah E. Harley (Frank L.) of Jenison, MI, Johanna Ritenour (Robert) of Angola, IN, Connie Mercer Nitz (Kirk) of Portage, MI and William G. Pabst (Barbra) of Lincolnwood, IL.
Grandchildren include: Andrea Harley Crowley (Chris), Jennifer Harley Stallworth (Lewis), Kristine Harley Groendyk (Roger), Megan Harley, Laura Ritenour Stephens (Nicholas), John Mercer (Audrey), Mark Mercer, John P. Pabst, Patricia Pabst, and Andrew Pabst. Great-grandchildren include: Alexis Harley Bowman, Taylin Stallworth, Evan Crowley, Ellise Crowley, Emma Stephens, and Finley Groendyk.
Marianne was a member of the Angola United Methodist Church, Cameron Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, and the VFW Auxiliary. Her later years were spent traveling with her children, visiting her grand and great-grandchildren and attending their various functions. She had a lifelong passion for bridge and recently celebrated 60 years of bridge with her Osceola Bridge Club. Her children remember her for her witty sense of humor, her ability to be flexible and “go with the flow.”
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 29 at 4:00 PM at the Osceola United Methodist Church in Osceola, IN. Arrangements are by Zimmerman-Inman Funeral Home, Osceola, IN.
