Mark Robert Gentry, 60, of Osceola entered into heavenly rest on Monday, February 12, 2024, at Elkhart General Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born to the late Robert and Darlene (Johnson) Gentry in Three Rivers, MI on June 16, 1963. In the summer of 1992, he married Mary Howie on July 4th, and they celebrated every year with fireworks and family.
She survives, along with their daughter Laura “Beth” (Jacob Hagen) Gentry of Mishawaka, three siblings, Becky Shafer of South Bend, Julie Gentry of Elkhart, and Robert John (Jeannie) Gentry of White Pigeon, MI and a grandson, Carter, at home. Mark was preceded in death by his best friend and “4-legged son” Luther, the family basset hound, who was part of Mark’s life for 13 years.
Mark always enjoyed working with his hands. He began tinkering and doing mechanical work on cars in his early teens. That passion grew into a career as he began working at Hull Lift Truck and several other shops in the area, most recently on the team of Forest River. His passion for cars also meant that Mark loved attending NHRA Races whenever he could. In his earlier years he enjoyed golfing, bowling, and playing pool. Mark loved watching classic TV shows with his family including Gunsmoke and other westerns. He loved his family and especially his grandson, Carter.
After cremation, a service to honor Mark’s life is scheduled for Saturday, February 17, 2024, from 2-4pm with a service beginning at 3pm at Cruz Family Funeral Home, Osceola. Mark’s nephew, Justin Gentry will officiate. Following the service, the family will have a celebration of life, at 5 pm, at the American Legion in Osceola.
In lieu of flowers and to honor Mark’s life, memorial contributions may be sent to the St. Joseph County Humane Society. To light a virtual candle, share a story of Mark’s life, or leave a message of comfort for his family, please visit the Tribute Tab above.
