Martha Jean Hopkins, age 90, of Mishawaka, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, December 2, 2024, Jean was born on August 18, 1934, in Warsaw, Indiana, to Alburto O. "Bill" and Mable (Evans) Wells. She graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1952. In the 1980s, Jean worked as a technical assistant at the Elkhart Career Center, where she taught continuing education classes in computer skills. She later became a typesetter at the Goshen News. Jean later took a position as an office clerk at Telephone Sales and Service of Osceola, where she remained employed until her health declined last year.
She is survived by her son Daniel (Julie) Hopkins of Lawton, Michigan, and her daughter Wendy (Matthew) Sitomer, of Los Angeles, California. Additionally, she is survived by her grandchildren: Stephanie (Logan) Harvey of Buckley, Washington, Brian Baldwin of Juneau, Alaska, and Kelly (Daniel) Kasper of Odenton, Maryland. Surviving as well are her great-grandchildren, Eli and Nolan Harvey and Macie and Emma Kasper. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Marjorie Huston, James Wells, David Wells, and Janice "Suz" Clark.
Visitation will be held on December 16, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at New Creation Fellowship Church in Granger, Indiana, with funeral services to follow at 11:00 AM. Jean will be laid to rest in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens following her service. Cruz Family Funeral Home of Osceola has been entrusted with her care.
Jean was a longtime and dedicated member of New Creation Fellowship Church, where she was involved in many activities. She especially loved attending the Women's Bible Study group, where she built deep and lasting friendships. Her church family meant everything to her, and she cherished her time in prayer and fellowship with her friends from church. Throughout her life, Jean's faith and family were her greatest joys. She enjoyed spending time with loved ones and living out her faith in everyday moments. Her kindness, compassion, and dedication to others left a lasting impact on everyone who knew her.
