Mary Jane (Schwaderer) Ritchie, age 79 of Mishawaka, passed away at the Center for Hospice, Raclin House with her family by her side on November 28, 2023. Mary was born March 16, 1944, in Clio, Michigan to the late Ted and Margaret (Silvernail) Schwaderer. Following her graduation from high school, Mary earned her degree in dental hygiene and cared for her patients with compassion. In May of 1963, she married James D. Ritchie. James preceded her in death in October of 2007.
She is survived by her daughter Cindy Hardy of South Bend and her grandchildren Melanie Heider, Taylor Hardy, Jade V. Miller and Aaron D. Hardy. She was preceded in death by her children David James Ritchie and Aaron Ritchie, her grandson Troy Hardy, an infant sibling, her sister Janet Wineman, and her brother Charles Schwaderer.
There will be 2 hours of visitation prior to the 2:00 pm funeral service on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at Cruz Family Funeral Home in Osceola. Mary will be entombed in Highland Cemetery, South Bend, immediately following services.
After a successful career in the dental field, she transitioned into a role as a machine operator at the CTS Corporation of Elkhart, where her dedication, work ethic, and friendly demeanor endeared her to both managers and co-workers alike. Mary's impact in the workplace extended beyond her professional duties, as she developed numerous close friendships with those she worked alongside for many years.
Away from work, Mary found joy in many hobbies that reflected her vibrant spirit. She had a deep love for cooking, creating delicious meals that brought people together. Her green thumb was evident in her beautiful garden, where she nurtured plants and flowers with the same care and attention she gave to her relationships. Mary's love for animals knew no bounds, and she shared her home with furry companions who were cherished members of the family. Country music often filled Mary's home with melodies, and she loved watching all kinds of movies. A history buff, she enjoyed exploring the stories of the past through books, films, and documentaries. Her appetite for knowledge was evident in her love for reading, a passion that she never abandoned.
Mary also had an extraordinary ability to connect with people, making friends wherever she went. Her infectious smile, genuine interest in others, and welcoming demeanor meant that she knew no strangers—only friends.
