Michael J. Tatay, age 71, passed away peacefully at his home in Granger following a long illness. Michael was born September 12, 1948 in South Bend, Indiana to the late William and Evelyn (Galloway) Tatay. Michael graduated from Riley High School in 1968. On December 12, 197o he married Sherry Lewis in Mishawaka, Indiana.
Surviving is his wife of 49 years, Sherry Tatay of Granger, Indiana and their three sons Michael Tatay of Edwardsburg, Michigan, Ryan Tatay and his wife Risha of Falls Church, Virginia, and Jeffrey Tatay and his wife Erica of Laramie, Wyoming. Michael is also survived by his grandchildren Myah, Michael III and Ryan Tatay. Also surviving are his siblings Bill Tatay, Jack Tatay and his wife Monica, Marge Tavernier and her husband Mark, Kathy Youngs and her husband Michael, Steve Tatay and his wife Susan and Greg Tatay and his wife Darlene. He was preceded in death by his brother Charles Tatay, his sister Mary Sue Waltz and his nephew Michael Youngs.
There will be a celebration of Michael’s life later in the summer. Cruz Family Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Osceola is assisting with the details.
Michael was employed for many years as a maintenance and property manager for Townhouse East Apartments and later retired from the Pointe at North Shore apartments in 2016.
In his spare time, he loved to talk to his friends and family and play golf. In his younger years, he coached his sons in little league and later enjoyed spending time with his wife Sherry watching them participate in many different sports from the bleachers. Michael was an avid fan of Notre Dame and enjoyed telling others about the history of the University and the people he had come to know at ND over the years.
Most of all, Michael was a loving husband, father and grandfather who loved to spend time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.
