Neil Vincent Sailor, age 88 of Edwardsburg, Michigan passed away Friday, November 4, 2016 at memorial Hospital in South Bend. Neil was born November 5, 1927 in Elkhart, Indiana, and was a graduate of Jimtown High School.
Surviving are his children Stacey (Rick) VanKlaveren of Granger and Laura Sailor of Elkhart. Also surviving are his grandchildren Angela (Kurt) Brown, Michael (Jessie) VanKlaveren & Wyatt Noack. Neil is survived as well by his great-granddaughter Abigail Stacey Brown. According to Neil, the best thing to ever happen to him was meeting his longtime companion, Martha Galbreath of Edwardsburg, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents Vincent Sailor and Dorothea Kirish and a sister Dee Sailor.
Visitation will be held from 2-5 pm Sunday, November 6, 2016 at Zimmerman Inman Funeral Home in Osceola. There will also be one hour of visitation prior to the 1:00 pm funeral service on Monday, November 7, 2016 at Zimmerman Inman Funeral Home, with interment to follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Pastor David F. Frazier of the Coulter’s Chapel Church of God, Niles Michigan will officiate.
Neil retired after many years of working for Adams & Westlake in Elkhart. He was also the longtime owner of “Signs by Sailor”; a sign shop featuring custom freehand designs for many businesses throughout the Michiana area.
In his spare time, Neil enjoyed fishing, was an avid bowler, and loved dogs. He was also a faithful fan of the Chicago Cubs and fulfilled his lifelong dream to see them win the World Series in his lifetime. Neil also attended Coulter’s Chapel Church of God in Niles for several years.
Neil was known for his wonderful sense of humor and his patient and kind demeanor, but his legacy will be remembered for years to come as a wonderful father , grandfather and great-grandfather to his family.
In his memory, memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or the Cass County Council on Aging.
