Nina Sue (LaPlace)Bisbey, age 84 of Osceola, was welcomed into Heaven on July 26, 2017. Nina Sue was born Feb. 6, 1933 in Mishawaka, Indiana to the late Dennis and Thelma (Ulery) LaPlace. She graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1950.
Nina Sue is survived by her daughter Karen (Steve) Sienicki, two grandchildren, Elliott (Elizabeth) and Taylor, her brother David (Elaine) LaPlace, many beloved cousins, her longtime friend Mary Ellen Shedron and “Gideon” her rescue dog. Preceding her in death were her parents, a daughter Debbie and two nephews Dennis LaPlace and David LaPlace Jr.
Friends may call from 10-11am Saturday, August 5, 2017 at College Park Missionary Church where a celebration of life service will be led by Pastor Christopher Garner at 11:00 am. Cruz Family Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Osceola is handling arrangements and interment will be held privately at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Among Nina Sue’s civic involvement, she served as President of the newly founded Women’s Democratic Club, was the first woman elected Clerk-Treasurer for the Town of Osceola, and was appointed the town’s first woman Code Enforcement Officer. She also served an appointed term on the Osceola Planning Commission. Nina Sue also served her community as a long-time volunteer with the popular Osceola Bluegrass Festival and was an Osceola Historical Society board member. A longtime member of College Park, Missionary Church in Mishawaka, Nina Sue co-founded the women’s ministry, “Women Alive!” and served on the Church board.
