Ora O. “Shorty” Jackson, age 93 of Osceola, passed away at 8:22 am Friday, October 27, 2017 at Golden Living Center in Elkhart. Ora was born December 12, 1923 in Gilmore, Alabama to the late William and Bessie (Hannah) Donaldson. On December 31, 1942, she married Jimmy Jackson in San Francisco, California. Jimmy preceded her in death, passing away in 2002.
Surviving are her sons Jimmy G. (Toni) Jackson of Mishawaka, and Gary L. (Nila) Jackson of Osceola. Also surviving is her brother Ronald Donaldson of Hueytown, Alabama, seven grandchildren and several great and great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son Larry R. Jackson in 2013, a sister, Flora Rivers, and her brothers Lee Albert, Harland, William O. James W. Terrell and Clyde Donaldson.
Visitation will be held from 4-6 pm Monday, October 30, 2017 at Cruz Family Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Osceola. No formal service is planned, and interment will be private in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
Shorty was employed for many years as a cook at several restaurants in the Michiana area, most notably the PDQ, Southern Kitchen, and Mr. G’s Restaurant in Osceola. She was a dedicated wife and mother who enjoyed spending time with the members of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #598, of which she was a longtime member.
