Larry Floyd Sonnenberg, of South Bend, Indiana went to be with the Lord at the age of 81 on May 4, 2024. Larry was born October 9, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois to the late Floyd and Norma (Rojohn) Sonnenberg. He was a graduate of Michigan City High School, class of 1961 and later obtained his associate degree from DeVry Institute of Technology. He served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1968. On September 21, 1974, Larry married his loving wife Janet Spence in Michigan City, Indiana.
He is survived by his wife Janet and his children Cindy Tyra and her husband Kevin of Clarksville, Tennessee, Steve Allmon and his wife Lisa of Plymouth, Indiana and Robert Sonnenberg. Surviving as well is his sister Donna Serle of South Bend, Indiana, 9 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Larry was preceded in death by his parents and brother Gary Sonnenberg and a granddaughter Julie Sonnenberg.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at Cruz Family Funeral Home in Osceola. There will also be one hour of visitation prior to the 11am funeral service on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at Cruz Family Funeral Home, followed by military honors and interment in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. **For those unable to attend, Larry’s funeral will be streamed in real time in the window below beginning at 10:50 am**
Larry was employed with Bethlehem Steel for 15 years. In 1982 Larry heeded God’s calling of going into ministry and was ordained as a General Baptist Minister in 1983. After serving as a Pastor in Dowagiac, Michigan, Rockford, Illinois, Corning, Arkansas and Marion, Indiana, God brought him to Victory Chapel General Baptist Church in Elkhart, Indiana where he served for 20 years until the day of his passing. He touched many lives during his time in the ministry and will live on through the lives of so many.
Larry loved to play golf, vacation in Branson, Missouri and going to all the activities for his grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as spending time with family and friends.
