Patricia Ann Smith, age 80 of Cassopolis, Michigan passed away with her family by her side on Sunday, November 21, 2021. Patty was born February 14, 1941, in Mishawaka, Indiana to the late Donald and Mildred (Ames) Gushwa. She was a graduate of Mishawaka High School and was employed for many years as a sonic welder at Cast Products in Elkhart.
Patty is survived by her children Duane “Dewey” Smith and his wife Mary, and Cynthia Schmid, both of Cassopolis, and Sherry Cleveland and her husband Scott of Henrietta, Texas. Surviving as well is her son in law Ron Allard and her brother Thomas Gushwa and his wife Jayne of Middlebury, Indiana. Patty is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Russell Dean Smith, her daughter Lora Allard and her sisters Donna Morgan and Sandy Uredneck.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the 2:00 pm funeral service on Monday, November 29, 2021, at Cruz Family Funeral Home in Osceola. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Following her retirement from Cast Products, Patty worked for the Cassopolis Council on Aging where she conducted home visits and assisted with in home health care. In her spare time, Patty enjoyed working in her garden and collecting unique rocks for her landscaping. In her younger years, she helped with numerous fundraisers for the Penn North Fire Department and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the American Legion Post 308 in Osceola.
Most of all, she was a loving wife, mother and grandmother to her family. In her memory, donations may be made to the Council on Aging, 60525 Decatur Rd, Cassopolis, MI 49031.
