Richard Allen “Dick” Fenimore, age 94, passed away Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at his home in Mishawaka. He was born October 10, 1930, in South Bend, Indiana to the late Theodore and Blanche (Fiwek) Fenimore. Following his graduation from Washington High School, Dick enlisted in the US Navy, serving honorably during the Korean War from 1951 to 1954. He was a torpedoman’s mate, third class, aboard the USS Dashiell, DD-659. One of the highlights of his time in the Navy was a world cruise in 1953, where he circled the world, and crossed the equator. On October 23, 1976, he married his true love Nancy Marie Chlebowski. She preceded him in death in May of 2024.

He is survived by his children Jeff Jennings, Kimberly (Kirk) Singleton, and Denise (Michael) Halfast, along with his grandchildren whom he adored, Ashlee Jennings, Kyle (Samantha) Singleton, Kelsey Halfast, Rebecca Halfast, and Chase Halfast, as well as his great grandchildren Evan Marder, Grant Marder, and Adelyn Ownbey-Halfast. Surviving as well is his sister, Rosie (Ronald) Beemer. He was preceded in death by his brothers Robert Fenimore and Theodore Fenimore Jr.

Richard was a hard worker and spent over 32 years as a terminal manager for Amoco Oil before his retirement. In his spare time, he loved to play golf and could spend hours out on the course, enjoying the game in the company of good friends. When he wasn’t golfing, you could often find him at a chessboard, or reading a book about history, historical military stories, or a good mystery novel. He was also a fantastic cook, and his homemade chili was one of his specialties.

But more than anything else, Richard loved his family. His grandkids were the center of his world. He was always there to help with math homework, school projects, or anything else they needed. His family always came first, and he made sure they knew how much he loved them.
