Richard Lynn Ogden

Richard Lynn “Dick” Ogden, age 94 of Granger, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday, September 15, 2019 at Bell Tower Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Granger. Dick was born January 26, 1925 in Republican City, Nebraska to the late George Lee and Frances Naomi (Haskins) Ogden.  Following graduation from Ventura High School, Dick graduated from The University of Southern California with his Bachelor’s Degree. He later earned his Masters of Divinity from the Dallas Theological Seminary.  In 1943, Dick enlisted in the US Navy and served honorably during World War II before his discharge in 1945.  On May 29, 1959, he married Rachel Zoschke in Hollywood, California.  Rachel preceded him in death, passing away in January of 2017.

Surviving are his children Rick Ogden of Rapid City, South Dakota, and Carla Farrell and her husband Dave of Granger, Indiana.  Also surviving are three grandchildren, Hudson, Alyssa and Cameron Farrell, all of Granger. He was preceded in death by his daughter Becky Ogden and his siblings Wendell and Bob Ogden.

A celebration of Dick’s life will be held at 1:00 pm on Sunday, September 22, 2019 at St. Mark Missionary Church, 55240 Bittersweet Road, Mishawaka, Indiana 46545. Dick will be laid to rest at a later date next to his loving wife, Rachel, in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Junction City, Kansas.  Cruz Family Funeral Home and Cremation Service is assisting with the arrangements.

Dick was employed for several years in the insurance industry before feeling the call upon his life to serve the Lord through preaching God’s word.  He pastored four churches in Colorado, Texas and South Dakota for over thirty years before his retirement.  Dick also loved reading books about the Old West by Louis L’Amour, watching old TV shows like Hogan’s Heroes, and playing card games, especially his favorite card game “Back Alley” with his family and friends.

In retirement, Dick enjoyed writing, converting many of his favorite sermons into book form. He has published two books. His love for his grandchildren was shown in the amount of time he spent with them, praying for them, and encouraging them to follow their dreams. His wit, joyful attitude, and devotion to the Lord will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.
