Robert Eugene Mark, age 82 of Osceola, passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at Elkhart General Hospital. Robert was born July 19, 1933 in Mishawaka, Indiana to the late Earl and Vera (Hans) Mark. Following his graduation from Mishawaka High School in 1951, Robert worked on his parent’s farm. In 1954, he enlisted in the US Army and was honorably discharged in 1956. Robert then enrolled in Valparaiso University where he obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in education, in 1959, and in 1965, he completed his Master’s Degree in Education at Ball State University. Robert went on to teach for 32 years in the Penn Harris Madison School Corporation before his retirement. On December 24, 1983, he married Judith A. Warner in Mishawaka.

He is survived by his loving wife Judith Mark of Osceola, and their children Diana (Claude) Burden, Stephen Mark, Kathy (Geoff) Helmen, Kristin (Steve) Sherk, and Robert (Nikki Kinkaide) Klinger. Also surviving are his grandchildren Daniel (Emily) Steinbaugh, Kate Mark, Alex Mark, Natalie Helmen, Noelle Helmen and Nick Sherk. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother James Mark, and a sister Virginia Bressler.

There will be one hour of calling prior to the 11:00 am celebration of his life on Monday, May 23, 2016 at St. Paul Lutheran Church 15697 New Road, Mishawaka, Indiana 46544. Zimmerman-Inman Funeral Home and Elkhart Cremation Service are assisting with arrangements.

Robert served his community as the Clerk-Treasurer of the town of Osceola for 12 years. He also was a member of the Lions Club of Osceola for 32 years, and was a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, currently serving as a trustee for several years.

Mr. Mark loved the holidays, gatherings and meals with his family. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed travelling to Canada to fish. Robert also loved IU Basketball and Football, and was proud of his coaching career at PHM. He also took pride in the appearance of his lawn, and kept and immaculate lawn and garden at his home. He was also a lover of cats and dogs; he and his wife Judith have spent 16 years bottle feeding and fostering kittens in their home.
