As a young man, Bob heard the call of his country and enlisted in the US Air Force where he served honorably during the Korean War Era. On July 17, 1959, Bob married the former Ms. Elizabeth Denington at St. Adalberts Church in South Bend. They recently celebrated their 65th anniversary.

Bob was a man who lived life at full throttle, both in spirit and in the things he loved. A lifelong train enthusiast, Bob’s imagination took flight in the detailed and realistic scenes created in his train room, inspired by the people closest to him—his family and friends. His passion for adventure didn’t stop there. Bob loved being out on the open road, especially when he was riding his Harley with the local H.O.G. Chapter, where he found friendship and freedom on two wheels.
In his younger years, Bob was serious about his health and strength, dedicating time to bodybuilding and weightlifting, but anything that went fast held his interest. From racing Funny Cars and Drag cars at Osceola Speedway and in South Bend to tearing up dirt trails and snow-packed landscapes with his sons on dirt bikes and snowmobiles, Bob never missed an opportunity to go as fast as possible. He also loved spending time outdoors, where he enjoyed hunting trips with his grandsons, passing on his love for nature and adventure. An avid supporter of the Second Amendment and a longtime NRA member, Bob held strong to his values. But his interests didn’t end there—he was passionate about raising exotic birds, owning and operating "B & B Aviary" for many years.
Bob was employed as a mechanic and later a machinist for Dodge Manufacturing and Ferret Inc. He had a talent for engines, even rebuilding his beloved "T-Bucket" car. After retiring at 65, Bob didn’t slow down. He took on the role of custodian at Queen of Peace School, where he became affectionately known as "Mr. Bob." The staff and students loved his friendly and outgoing personality.
A man of faith, Bob was a devoted member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church, where his presence will be missed. He leaves behind not just memories of his incredible adventures but a legacy of love, laughter, and the joy of living life with passion. Bob’s adventurous spirit will continue to inspire all who knew him, and he will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and everyone whose life he touched.
