Roger L Cobb

October 7, 1934 — November 1, 2022

Osceola

Roger L. Cobb was born October 7th, 1934, in Burlington, Wisconsin to Harley E. and Hazel (Baker) Cobb. He attended the Burlington schools and was a member of the Burlington High School class of 1953.

On April 7th, 1955, he married Evelyn V. Phillips in a military wedding in Fort Riley Kansas. They spent the next two years in Germany where he was stationed in the United States Army. Of this union they had 5 children: Terry (Lynne) Cobb, Cynthia (Greg) Nelson, Sharon Nocek (Warren Furman), Jeffrey (Carla) Cobb and Patricia (Tim) Slayden. Roger started his working career as a truck driver and then moved on to sales and sales management for the Coleman Co. and then back to driving truck. He finally found his niche in life when he and his bride built the Skate Barn roller rink in Burlington in the late 70’s. In the 80’s they sold out and moved to Michigan City, Indiana where they purchased USA Skating Center. After a real estate deal, they returned to Wisconsin and operated Skatetown USA. He became involved with the Roller Skating Rink Operators Association where he served as a national director on the board from 2000 - 2003 and dealt with many other roller rink operators. In 1999 they decided to retire and travel. They purchased a motor home and spent the winters in Florida and the summers traveling and visiting their kids and grandkids right up until 2017 when his bride passed away. He then moved in with his son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Lynne where he enjoyed helping out when he could with mowing and some woodworking. He always wanted to stay active and would, as long as his health would allow. Roger is survived by his 5 kids, 19 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 11 great, great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses at Elkhart General Hospital and the staff of St. Joseph County Hospice.

The family has scheduled a celebration of life to be held April 8th, 2023, at the Rochester Village Hall in Rochester, Wisconsin. In lieu of flowers, since Roger was an animal lover and enjoyed his cats, Rogers wish was to have all donations made to “Here Kitty Kitty Rescue” 25138 County Rd. 24 Elkhart, IN 46517.
