Ruth B. Ryall, 82, of Osceola entered heavenly rest on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family. She was born in South Bend to the late David and Faith (Cripe) Platz, on March 9, 1941. On September 23, 1959, she married Marvin Ryall in South Bend, after meeting upon Marvin’s return from serving in the US Army.
He survives along with their five children, Peggy (Pat) Kamp of Mishawaka, Betty (Jim) Stafford, Annette Small, Marvin II (Joelle) Ryall, and Daniel Ryall, all of Osceola. Ruth was part of a large family, with over 200 family members still surviving, including two brothers, David (Helga) Platz, of Mishawaka, and John Platz of Florida, and a close brother-in-law Kenneth (Heidi) Ryall. 13 grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, two brothers, two grandsons (Danny and Ryan), and several nieces and nephews.
Ruth was an avid bowler and enjoyed traveling with Marvin via motorcycle, being sure to stop at any casino they drove by. On the weekends, Ruth would tend to her garden, which still has a 36-year-old rose bush. Every Saturday during football season she would cheer on “her boys” on the Notre Dame football team with her granddaughter, Justine. Ruth retired from South Bend Plastics after 23 years of service, but most importantly loved spending as much time as she could with her family and sharing lots of memories as the family grew.
A time to celebrate Ruth’s life is scheduled on her birthday, March 9th, from 2-4pm, with a service at 4pm at Cruz Family Funeral Home, Osceola. Brandon Cruz will officiate. Cremation will take place and burial will follow at Olive Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Ruth’s Honor to the American Heart Association or St. Jude’s Children Hospital.
